Chalkboard Pet Signs

An easy DIY gift for the anyone that walks their pet on a leash: dogs, cats, ferrets, even this adorable Javan ferret-badger my sister saw in Indonesia.

Chalkboard Leash Plaques

  • Wooden Sign <– Found mine for $1 each!
  • Sandpaper
  • Chalkboard Paint
  • Brush
  • Stir stick
  • Large rubber band
  • Drill
  • Eye Hooks
  • Chalk and/or white paint

Instructions

Lightly sand the surface of the sign.

Stir paint well.

Brush on a thick coat of chalkboard paint. I use a foam brush cause they are cheap and I am less likely to catch the bristles and spray paint everywhere.

TIP: Loop a large rubber band around the can of paint and over the hole. Then you can wipe off your excess paint on the band and not have paint in the grooves (or dripping down the sides) when you go to put your lid back on.

Pre drill your eye hooks with a small bit. Then screw in your eye hooks where you want the leashes to go.

After everything is dry, draw your message on the sign.

Ta Da!

I used chalk the first time, but the girls liked it so much they asked me to paint it on permanently. They can still write on the chalkboard paint and not worry about wiping away the original message.

These are adorable! I haven’t been a big fan of chalkboard paint but it’s perfect here!
